  Cost of Learning to Fly


Requirement:
  •  
  • Age: 16 to Solo, 17 for license
  •  
  • 40 hr requirement per FAA Regulations
    60 to 65 (National Average) hours is more realistic
    (35 hours with an instructor and 25 hours solo).
  •  
  • Ground study program to pass the FAA written exam.
  •  
  • FAA Medical Certificate (must be obtsained prior to solo).

    Instructor Cost (35 hours @ $30.00/hr) $1050.00
    Ground School $200.00
    Pilot Supplies $350.00
    Renters Insurance $125.00
    Written Test Fee $75.00
    FAA Medical Exam $75.00

  • Add $1350.00 if training in a C172
  • Pilot suplies includes the cost of headset, charts, study guides, etc...
  • The average commercial operation will charge $90.00/hr for a C172 and $50.00/hr for instruction. This gives a the potential for savings of $2800.00 to $3800.00 in obtaining your Private Pilot Certificate.
